The NAACP Image Awards joined the #TimesUp campaign by encouraging viewers to use their votes to bring about equality for all.

After the opening monologue, Kerry Washington,Tracee Ellis Ross, Lena Waithe, Angela Robinson, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Laverne Cox all took the stage for an important #TimesUp message.

Reading together, the women said, “Time’s up on complaining about an imperfect system if we aren’t willing to fix it; time’s up on our silence; time’s up on the abuse of power.” Robinson added, “The midterms are a perfect moment for us to use our voices.”

During her acceptance speech for best performance in a comedy series, Ross reiterated the message: “When we speak up and use our voices and vote, we make so much change, and our world needs it right now.”

Halle Berry quoted Martin Luther King, saying, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.” She added, “Tonight is affirmation that we shall never ever, ever, ever, ever be silent again.”
