Murphy Brown confronts man who sexually assaulted her in #MeToo-themed episode

Inspired by the #MeToo movement, the show Murphy Brown revealed that Murphy (Candice Bergen) was sexually assaulted by a professor in college when she was 19. And empowered by the current social and political climate, Murphy confronted her attacker. In the episode, Murphy bravely recounts the night of the incident to her former professor. She explains how he lured her to his office, pressured her to drink, and then sexually assaulted her. Murphy told him, "You pinned me down right there on that couch. I pushed you off, and I got the hell out of here." Similar to many headlines in today's news, Murphy's professor denied the accusations. He actually accused her of seducing him. And while he never acknowledged or apologized for his transgressions, Murphy felt a sense of closure because she finally confronted the person who hurt her so many years ago. Murphy Brown airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
