Movie Sequels We’re Still Waiting For

Look, we know not every movie needs to be a franchise. However, some stories are so fun, we absolutely want to spend more time with those characters. While Marvel has no trouble cranking out plenty of MCU entries and Universal is gearing up for its 11th “Fast & Furious” film, there are some follow-ups we’re still desperate to get. Before we get too far into summer movie blockbuster season, we wanted to highlight the movie sequels we’re still not-so-patiently waiting for.

Friday 4

Ice Cube and Chris Tucker have both claimed Warner Bros. is the reason we haven’t gotten a new “Friday” movie yet. The relationship seems very contentious, so I wouldn’t hold your breath for this one to happen anytime soon.

Kill Bill: Vol. 3

Once upon a time, Quentin Tarantino revealed that the third “Kill Bill” movie would follow Vernita’s (Vivica A. Fox) adult daughter seeking revenge against her mother’s murderer, The Bride. With the director making his retirement plans public, it seems like we probably won’t be revisiting this violent world again.

Ocean’s 9 or 14

We’re not sure what the title of this one would be, but we really need an “Avengers”-style team up between the male and female Ocean’s crew.

The Princess And The Frog

Disney’s had a “The Princess and the Frog” follow-up and live-action version in development for a long time, but it feels like it’s never going to happen. We guess the revamped Splash Mountain, now titled Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is the closest we’ll get.

District 10

We’ve been waiting to revisit this alien invasion story since “District 9" was released in 2009. Every few years director Neill Blomkamp teases that the script is done and production is about to start, then nothing happens. Put this one firmly in the “we’ll believe it when we see it.”

Girls Trip 2

Based on recent comment from Tiffany Haddish and Will Packer, it seems like we’re closer than ever to taking another trip with the Flossy Posse.

The Old Guard 2

Netflix greenlit the follow-up to this action movie about immortal mercenaries, but between the pandemic and getting the script right, it’s been a long time coming. The good news is that Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all reportedly returning.

Black Panther 3

Marvel Studios has a lot of films and series on its release schedule, but we haven’t heard anything official about a third “Black Panther” movie. We understand how emotional it was to get through “Wakanda Forever,” so we want the cast and crew to take as long as they need.

The Goonies 2

Yes, we know “The Goonies” came out in 1985. We also know all The Goonies are in their 50s. However, the nostalgia is strong for this movie, so fans will never stop asking for it. “Goonies never say die!”

White Chicks 2

Whether or not “White Chicks” could work nowadays is still up in the air. However, it’s a cult classic that fans still love quoting.

Hobbs & Shaw 2

At some point, we were supposed to get another adventure with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s Hobbs and Shaw, but with “Fast X” reintroducing Hobbs into the main story, that may not be in the cards now.

Knives Out 3

It’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll get another “Knives Out” story at some point, it just a question of who will join Daniel Craig for the latest murder mystery.

National Treasure 3

In “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” the president asked Nicolas Cage’s Ben Gates to look into something on page 47 of the secret presidential diary. We’re still waiting to find out what the hell was on page 47.

The Princess Diaries 3

Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine may be big stars now, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to return to Genovia and find out how Queen Mia has been handling the throne.
