EXCLUSIVE: Matt Lanter (Jupiter’s Legacy) and newcomer Sophia Esperanza have joined Prime Video’s Motorheads cast in recurring roles, Deadline has learned exclusively.

From writer-showrunner John A. Norris, Motorheads is about first love, first heartbreak, and turning the key in your very first car. Set in a once-thriving rust-belt town that’s now searching for a glimmer of hope, the series is the adrenaline-filled story of a group of outsiders who form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of automobiles. And while some characters will be navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school, others will be racing from a dark past.

The series also includes previously announced stars Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino, Melissa Collazo, Uriah Shelton, Drake Rodger, Johnna Dias-Watson, Josh Macqueen and Mia Healey.

Lanter will portray Darren, a wealthy and powerful father of 17-year-old Harris (Macqueen), who, like his dad, is a serious street racer. Both Darren and Harris are struggling with the aftermath of the death of Harris’ mother. Darren is surprised to learn that the new kid in town is the son of his old street racing nemesis.

Esperanza plays Ryan, who is described as fun and dangerous. She’s the leader of a street crew from outside Ironwood, but she has a special connection to the town.

Motorheads is written and executive produced by Norris. It is also executive produced by Jason Seagraves, Jake Fuller on behalf of Jax Media, Dana Brunetti, and Keegan Rosenberger. Neil Burger is attached to direct the pilot and Ryan Zaragoza will serve as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios.

Lanter most recently starred as one of the leads in Steven DeKnight’s Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy, opposite Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb. He also starred as the lead in Shawn Ryan’s NBC drama series Timeless. Additional TV credits include The Mandalorian, Shark, Heroes, Commander In Chief and most recently S.W.A.T in 2023. On the film side, he starred in features such as Pitch Perfect 3, Disaster Movie and was the voice of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Clone Wars. He is repped by Entertainment 360 and UTA.

Born in Texas, up-and-coming actress Esperanza boasts over 3 million followers across her social media platforms with a focus on conscious living and earth-loving. She is repped by Global Artists Agency and Death Wish Entertainment.
