Mia Goth gets one more grisly shot at stardom in the new trailer for MaXXXine, the final installment of her slasher flick trilogy with director Ti West.

The film is set in 1985, several years after the gruesome events of X, against the backdrop of the Night Stalker killings in Los Angeles. Goth’s character, Maxine, has reinvented herself as Maxine Minx, and is angling to make the jump from adult films to horror, and then finally, to total Hollywood stardom and domination.

But those best-laid plans are inevitably upended when a private detective, played by Kevin Bacon, tracks down Maxine at the behest of a very powerful man. “The past ain’t finished with you,” Bacon’s character tells Maxine. “It’s gonna keep knocking at your door.”

Along with Goth and Bacon, MaXXXine boasts an all-star cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, and Giancarlo Esposito. A couple of musicians will appear in the film, too, with Halsey making her second big-screen appearance (following last year’s crime film Americana) and Moses Sumney making his film debut after appearing in mini-series The Idol.

MaXXXine is set to hit theaters July 5. Goth and West launched the X trilogy back in 2022 with the double-shot of X and its companion piece/prequel, Pearl. Both were hits among horror fans and earned rave reviews, with X landing at Number One on Rolling Stone’s list of the Best Horror Movies of 2022. “Tons of films pay tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; this was one of the few that felt like you might have caught it on a Forty-Deuce double bill with Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece back in the day,” Rolling Stone wrote of film.
