'MaXXXine,' a sequel to the 2022 horror movies 'X' and 'Pearl,' also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Halsey, Lily Collins and Kevin Bacon

Mia Goth is keeping the shocks and surprises coming.

The first trailer for MaXXXine debuted April 8, teasing writer-director Ti West and studio A24’s third entry in a slasher trilogy that also includes 2022’s X and Pearl, which both also starred Goth, 30.

"In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx (Goth) finally gets her big break," according to a synopsis. "But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past."

The MaXXXine cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, Kevin Bacon and Halsey.

Goth had dual roles in X, as porn actress Maxine and as the elderly farm resident Pearl. Pearl's origin story played out in the next film titled after the character, which Goth co-wrote.

The trailer shows Maxine, now living in Los Angeles in the 1980s following the '70s-set X, as she strives toward an acting career while a killer known as the Night Stalker harms actresses in Hollywood. Meanwhile, a private detective (Bacon) tracks Maxine down and appears intent on revealing parts of her past just as she seems set to make her big break as an actress.

West previously told IndieWire that MaXXXine “will be about how home video has affected people.” He added of the trilogy, “You won’t need to see one to see the other, but they do complement each other.”

“It’s the best script of the three by far,” Goth previously told Variety. “It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes, and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”

MaXXXine is in theaters July 5.
