The final title in Ti West’s X trilogy, MaXXXine, is on its way. Today, A24 released the first trailer for the new Mia Goth-starring film.
Taking place in the 1980s, MaXXXine marks the third installment of the slasher trilogy, picking up after the conclusion of the plot of 2022’s X, itself set in 1979. Goth will return as the titular character, Maxine, as she arrives in Los Angeles to pursue her acting career, hoping to leave her encounters with Pearl (the subject of the prequel, Pearl) in the past. “But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past,” notes the film’s official synopsis.
MaXXXine is set to premiere on July 5th, 2024. Joining Goth will be a star-studded cast including Halsey, Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Debicki, Lily Collins, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, and Moses Sumney.
Previously, Goth has proclaimed MaXXXine will be “the best movie of the three,” with “the best script of the three by far.” Speaking to Variety, she said “It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”
