I hate checking a bag. There's just something about the anxiety of potentially losing luggage that starts a vacation off on the wrong foot, so I try to avoid it as often as possible. But packing everything needed for a multi-day trip into a carry-on isn't always an easy feat. It requires carefully selecting pieces from my wardrobe that, if necessary, can pull double duty.

That's where my go-to summer shoes come in. Sarah Flint's Grear style not only folds down flat to take up minimal space in a suitcase, but the Grecian-inspired sandal also looks nice with just about any outfit, easily pairing with shorts and a simple blouse for a day exploring the beach, or with a maxi dress and statement jewelry for a dinner out—so you don't need to pack quite so many pairs of kicks.

I'm in good company in loving these flats. Everyone from Halle Berry to Cindy Crawford to Anna Kendrick and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex herself, has been seen sporting the style. (Meghan opted to wear them with a striped maxi dress on her and Prince Harry's 2018 royal tour of Australia.)

In particular, I like the Saddle Vachetta colorway, which is a rich caramel brown leather with matching soft cotton laces that tie around the ankle, but the Grear sandal also currently comes in black, white, a fun citrus-inspired shade, and gold, which I currently have my eye on. Because how better to add a little glam to a getaway than with a royal-approved metallic look?
