Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's charity, the Archewell Foundation, has been declared "delinquent" by the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers.

On May 3, Attorney General of California Rob Bonta sent a delinquency notice to the foundation, People reported. The document states the nonprofit is "listed as delinquent with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees."

In plain terms, Prince Harry and Markle's foundation didn't pay its annual registration fees. The organization is unable to raise or spend funds.

"An organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including soliciting or disbursing charitable funds," the letter from Bonta reads. "The organization may also be subject to penalties and its registration may be suspended or revoked by the Registry. Once you submit the delinquent record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees that are owed."

A check was reportedly sent with the filing to the attorney general's office but not received, Page Six reported. Since then, a new check has been issued, and the delinquent status should be updated once it is processed.

As Archewell worked to resolve the issue, online critics reacted to its delinquent status.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "Archewell is delinquent. Netflix is going to let the contract expire. Spotify dropped them. ARO is dead on arrival. Lemonada is most likely never going to see a podcast. This is why they are leaning into Invictus hard and using it to grift off of commonwealth countries."

Another X user declared, "Well that’s embarrassing."

Meanwhile, someone else defended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, writing on X, "Imagine what would surface if the media scrutinised the Royal Family and their foundations as timely and diligently as they scrutinise the Sussexes. Headlines: Archewell is delinquent and XYZ *could* happen Truth: A cheque was lost in the mail and a new one has been sent."
