Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Archewell charity is being recognized for its work advocating for at-risk Afghans and military veterans who served in Afghanistan. The Human First Coalition is awarding Archwell the Partner Organization Award for its advocacy and financial support. The same evening, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal will receive the Haji Abdul Rauf Service Award for his work on behalf of Afghan refugees and asylum seekers.

"Both Sen. Blumenthal and the Archewell Foundation were instrumental in assisting us as we organized efforts to assist Afghans who were left behind when the Taliban took Kabul," Safi Rauf, an Afghani refugee and former Taliban hostage, who established Human First Coalition, shared in a press release. "We cannot thank them enough for their support."

Meghan and Harry will not be in attendance; instead, Archewell Foundation Executive Director James Holt will accept the award on their behalf..

"It's an honor to be recognized by Human First Coalition, whose steadfast work in Afghanistan has played a critical role in delivering much needed aid and resulted in the successful evacuation and resettlement of thousands globally," Holt said in a statement. "We share a commitment to supporting families and veterans and are grateful for their partnership."

In their 2021 holiday card, the Sussexes shared that they donated to "several organizations that honor and protect families—from those being relocated from Afghanistan, to American families in need of paid parental leave." Among the organizations listed was the Human First Coalition.

After the card came out, Human First Coalition tweeted, "We’re proud to partner with Archewell Foundation and Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Through a generous contribution this holiday season, they’re providing care for families in need in Afghanistan & supporting life-saving efforts we are undertaking daily."

The event will take place on August 15, 2022.
