Matters of Graves Importance: Mrs. Roper Bar Crawl takes over downtown on Saturday

On Saturday, April 27, from 1 to 5 p.m., Chillicothe's very own Mrs. Roper Bar Crawl will take over our historic downtown area. Purchase your ticket i.e. a Roper lanyard and crawl guide, and you will be all set to explore the town and take part in all of the fun activities at participating venues. The best part? After expenses, all proceeds from the crawl will go to the Pioneer Center Outreach Department so you can party and do good at the same time. Search LoriG Comedy on Eventbrite to purchase your bar crawl guide. TODAY, Thursday, is the last day to purchase a ticket. Participating venues include Old Capitol Brewing, Hometown Hibachi, The Dock at Water, The Crosskeys Tavern, Steiner’s Speakeasy, and The Pour House at Machinery Hall. Let’s get to the rest of the week.

Thursday

Open mic comedy returns to the Gutterball Lounge in Shawnee Lanes at 7:30 p.m. tonight. This will be my last time being the regular host as I will be turning it over to McKenzie Reutinger in May. We have 16 comics on the lineup. 21 and over please and no cover. The Davissons take the stage at The Crosskeys Tavern at 7 p.m. From 3 to 7 p.m., Hazel's Roadshow, featuring DJ Hazel, will present "Music in the Park," an all-Prince-themed event. The event will be held at Chillicothe City Park weather permitting and is open to the public with free admission.

Friday

Out of Eden, a 6-piece tribute band based out of northeast Ohio, presents a Tribute to the Eagles at the Majestic Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The Saturday show is sold out and as of print, around 70 tickets remain for the Friday show. You can find The Basement Collective at The Page beginning at 7 p.m. Head to Amvets Post 4 at 6:30 p.m. for Shady Ray who will be playing all your favorite classic rock songs from the 70s and 80s.

Saturday

Local favorite Greg Higley returns to The Pour House at Machinery Hall at 7:30 p.m. Call 740-771-4770 to make a table reservation because it will be a full house. Solo singer/songwriter Ben Haynes will begin at 8 p.m. at Wagner’s Roadhouse. Expect country rock, folk, and blues music for your enjoyment. DJ J Jones takes over the Crosskeys Tavern from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., then moves to O’Malleys from 11 p.m. to close. The Crosskeys kitchen will be open from 1 to 11 p.m. as well. Dickey’s is hosting a spring BBQ party from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Activities include a DJ, LRC card game, poker, corn hole, and much more.

Looking ahead

May 17 is the 13th annual Swine & Stogies presented by the Cigar Band at Creekside Occasions. Event tickets are $35 each and include a smoked pork dinner, two drink tickets, and an after-dinner cigar with proceeds benefiting the Ross County Good Samaritan Food Bank. Tickets can be purchased from a Cigar Band member. Indoor seating for dining this year is open seating so show up anytime between 6:30 to 8 p.m. This time will apply to carry-out as well. The post-dinner party will continue in a separate tent with cigars, drinks, and many raffle/auction items to shop through. The Cigar Band has generously donated over $40,000 to the food band from this yearly event.

Until next time. I hope to see you out laughing.
