Matters of Graves Importance: 13th annual Swine & Stogies on Friday at Creekside Occasions

I have realized I could never be a physical therapist. These poor, poor people. They are like bartenders for people who aren’t day drinking. Patients go to PT appointments and spill their life stories.

At my latest therapy appointment, my PT asked another patient “How is your knee?” Twelve minutes later she still hadn’t said how her knee was. I learned way more about her than I cared to at 8:30 a.m. I mean, come on Doris. He only needs to know about your knee. I realize the 60s were a trying time, you are blessed to have 23 grandchildren, and you recently lost a chicken, but I am going to need you to focus on that leg lift so I can get out of here and get back to my life. I have stuff to do. Here is some stuff for you to do this weekend in Chillicothe.

Thursday

Hazel's Roadshow, featuring DJ Hazel, will present Music in the Park, a “50's & 60's Rock n' Roll & Soul” this evening. The event will be held at Chillicothe City Park from 3 to 7 p.m. (weather permitting) and is open to the public with free admission. Music open mic is back at the Gutterball Lounge in Shawnee Lanes hosted by Jacob and Dannie. The fun begins at 7 p.m. Trivia can be found at Old Capitol Brewing in Chillicothe at 6:30 p.m. with the theme “boy band/name that tune.” I will be taking my trivia east to Stockroom601 in Jackson at 7 p.m. I stand by my statement that you can find one of the best ham and cheese sandwiches in southern Ohio at the Stockroom. Try one and tell me I am lying.

Friday

The 13th annual Swine & Stogies presented by the Cigar Band is tonight at Creekside Occasions. Event tickets are $35 each and include a smoked pork dinner, two drink tickets, and an after-dinner cigar with proceeds benefiting the Ross County Good Samaritan Food Bank. Tickets can be purchased from a Cigar Band member. Indoor seating for dining this year is open seating so show up anytime between 6:30 to 8 p.m. This time will apply to carry-out as well. The Ted Lewis Museum will present a free concert Runnin’ Wild: Ted Lewis in the 1920s at 7 p.m. The concert will be held at The Amphitheater at the Pickaway Agriculture & Event Center, 415 Lancaster Pike, Circleville, Ohio. For more information visit www.tedlewismuseum.org or call 740-477-3630. (In case of rain, the concert will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m.)

Heroes Pub Pizza & Subs let’s you be the star as they welcome Karaoke Krazy Entertainment starting at 8 p.m. Downtown at Old Capitol Brewing, Zac McFadden takes over the taproom at 7 p.m.
