Marvel Issues Subpoena to Instagram Over Captain America 4 Leaks

Marvel has issued a subpoena to Instagram in an attempt to uncover the identity of a leaker account that leaked apparent footage of the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.

As reported by TorrentFreak, Marvel has sent a subpoena request invoking the DMCA, requesting that Instagram reveal account information and anything – including names, addresses, IP address email addresses, and more – that can identify the person behind the account known as @canwegetsometoast. The account reportedly posted leaked footage of the upcoming Captain America film via an Instagram story, and despite stories disappearing after a day, the footage has apparently spread like wildfire across the internet.

The notice alleges that the account “published a copyrighted image” from the upcoming film without authorization on April 30, 2024. The account is filled with apparent leaks and details for upcoming Marvel films, some of which is reposted from other sources, although much of it seems to be original, too. It has a track record for getting things right, too, which is probably why Marvel is taking it so seriously.

Leaks are nothing new in the film and TV industry, and we’ve seen a host of them in recent months and years. From Minecraft film set leaks (and even more Minecraft film set leaks) to the post credits scene for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it seems like no movie is safe from leaks.

It’s not always necessarily a specific person that leaks something, though — sometimes it’s a company’s own marketing that undoes it. We’ve seen this recently with Captain America: Brave New World, even, when in two separate instances, an early McDonald’s promotion saw new details leaked to the public.

The first of these leaks seemed to confirm that Red Hulk would be appearing in Captain America 4, something that was previously not announced but had been suspected by many. It also hinted at a new costume for Falcon, something that was subsequently confirmed through a second McDonald’s leak showing off the new Falcon suit.
