So. Many. Spideys. See web-slinging team unite in new 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' trailer.

One of Spider-Man’s greatest adversaries hits the screen this Friday, when Venom arrives to provide the giant-tongued alien symbiote villain with his own stand-alone origin story. Yet that won’t be the only web-slinging action to arrive in theaters this year, as Marvel’s famed hero will again swing into action in December in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — alongside more than a few arachnid-powered friends.

Following up a sterling teaser, the latest trailer for the upcoming CGI affair — produced by The Lego Movie’s Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (the latter of whom also penned the screenplay) — proves that it’s going to be a well-populated affair, as well as a severely tongue-in-cheek one. Thanks to a supercollider apparently used by the Kingpin (Liev Schreiber), alternate dimensions collide, thus causing the meeting of myriad spider-folk, including New York City teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), wisecracking Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), a 1930s Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). Their united quest to save the city, and world, from destruction looks to be a visually stunning affair, as well as one overflowing with Lord and Miller’s trademark self-referential humor, as evidenced by an intro that shouts out to Sam Raimi’s original Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man films.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, and also featuring Mahershala Ali as Miles’s Uncle Aaron; Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’s father, Jefferson; Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’s mother, Rio; and Lily Tomlin as Peter Parker’s beloved Aunt May, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on Dec. 14.
