A Florida man dressed as Fred Flintstone and driving a footmobile was having a gay old time — until he was stopped by police.

On Nov. 4, a few days after Halloween, a deputy from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office pulled over a costumed Don Swartz in Wesley Chapel, a community near Tampa Bay, for “speeding.” The incident was documented on the law enforcement department’s Facebook page and, thanks to the funny post, it’s gone viral.

However, it sounded far-fetched (“Meadow Bedrock Pointe Subdivision, the vehicle being “seized” and is “now part of the PSO fleet,” and Swartz and his wife being “good sports”), and it is. According to Pasco Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Kevin Doll, “It was a joke.” He added, “It was [a] real car, no citation or confiscation.”

According to Good Morning Tampa Bay, the department was just trying to bring attention to speeding, saying: This may be funny, but speeding is not.

We reached out to Swartz, who hopefully won the top prize at whatever costume party he was headed to, but no reply yet. He did, however, share a story about the fake incident on his Facebook, with a friend telling him, “You have the best stories.” Indeed — this is one for the books. He’s gone viral.

And believe it or not, this isn’t the first footmobile making headlines in Florida in recent years. In 2016, there was a fuss about another one — with animal print design — that was seen in Key West.
