Man Convicted of Murdering Wife Says Joke at Her Expense on “Family Feud” Wasn't Said with 'Malice'

Timothy Bliefnick was sentenced to life in prison in August for the February 2023 murder of his estranged wife, Rebecca Bliefnick

The man convicted in June of murdering his wife after appearing on Family Feud years earlier says that his joke on the show — in which he expresses regret about marrying her — was not said with “malice.”

Timothy Bliefnick spoke out for the first time since he was sentenced to life in prison in August for the February 2023 murder of his estranged wife, Rebecca Bliefnick, on the upcoming episode of 48 Hours, which will air at Saturday at 10:00 PM, ET/PT on CBS, and stream on Paramount+.

On a 2020 Family Feud episode, host Steve Harvey said to Bliefnick, “All right, Tim, we talked to 100 married people. What’s the biggest mistake you made at your wedding?”

“Honey, I love you but, said ‘I do.’,” Bliefnick replied. “Not my mistake! Not my mistake, I love my wife.”

Speaking about the joke in a teaser clip for 48 Hours, Bliefnick said, “It wasn’t said with any malice or bad intentions. It was supposed to be funny.”

Also in the video trailer, 48 Hours correspondent Erin Moriarty asked Bliefnick if he killed his ex-wife, to which he replied, “No, I did not murder Becky.”

“The idea of, of murdering someone, let alone the mother of my kids ... is not any part of who I am,” he added. 

Bliefnick and Becky shared three boys together, ages 12, 10 and 6, but Bliefnick filed for divorce in 2021.

Becky, who was a 41-year-old nurse, was shot 14 times at close range. She was found dead in her second-floor bathroom on Feb. 23, 2023.

During his trial in May, prosecutors said Bliefnick killed his wife after seeing another man’s car parked outside her house on Feb. 14.

“You researched this murder," Judge Robert Adrian told Bliefnick during his sentencing in August. "You planned this murder. You practiced this murder. You broke into her house and you shot her ... 14 times. ... Some of those shots were fired while she was lying on the ground and you did all of that while your children were upstairs at your house, lying snug in their beds.”
