LUAR's SS23 NYFW Showcase Pays Tribute to "The Immigrant Experience"

Raul Lopez took to the runway at New York Fashion Week to showcase LUAR's Spring/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection.

Comprised of 45 looks, the collection drew inspiration from Lopez's family reunions and Brooklyn-based upbringing, alongside the women in his family. With roots in the Dominican Republic, Lopez's family represented strength, protection and most importantly: power.

Fusing together the high and low of fashion, the brand continually seeks to showcase Lopez's experiences, offering a "wearable reflection of his community," according to the press release. Paying homage to "the immigrant experience," Lopez's collection highlights the juxtaposition between designer and knock-off, high-end and low end and everything in between.

Combining the likes of nylon tech jackets with chiffon gowns and leather and denim with silk, the collection aims to mismatch and clash at every opportunity. A reflection of Lopez carrying the world on his shoulders, exaggerated silhouettes and proportions make up a core part of LUAR SS23.
