Lizzo Says She Was Kicked Out of Her Vacation Rental Early

If you follow Lizzo on Instagram, you know she’s recently been spending some time vacationing (safely) with some of her girlfriends. “Just a group of melanated girls soaking up the sun. No rhyme or reason. (We all took the responsibility to get covid tests and luckily we’re all negative. Please be safe and wear your masks…),” she wrote, including a link to coronavirus testing sites.

But her most recent post has some troubling claims about how and why her trip was cut short. In true Lizzo form, she made her point with the language of dance—twerking to be specific.

“This is for the man that kicked me out of my 7-day rental 3 days early yesterday,” she wrote in a caption alongside a video of her twerking in a red bathing suit and cover-up. “This is for mocking the way that I dance and for using Instagram footage of me and my 6 black homegirls to say that we could ‘hurt him’ and threaten to call the police. I know you’re watching my page so I just want you to know you can’t stop this black girls’ shine. Thanks for kicking us out cus this house is better anyways. Xoxo 🖕🏾.”

Obviously this is a very troubling accusation, and many of Lizzo’s followers were quick to offer their support. Many called for the man’s name, though the singer did not call him out directly.

“I’d have thought you staying in a particular rental would make it a much much more enticing property and increase its rental potential, you were doing him a favour! He needs to get with the times 🤦‍♀️,” Stefania Ferrario wrote. “Words fail me but there’s steam coming from my ears like a cartoon right now 😡,” another commented added.

From calling out body shamers and racial discrimination to urging people to vote, Lizzo continues to use her voice and platform for change.
