Blog: Remarkable Women surprised by Jennifer Hudson
LOS ANGELES (NEXSTAR) — More than 100 Remarkable Women winners from across the nation have arrived in Los Angeles for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Each trip participant won a competition at a Nexstar station to be named its local Remarkable Woman and earn the California vacation. The women will be recognized for their fantastic efforts at home and celebrated throughout the 3-day trip. At a Monday evening ceremony, one woman will earn the title of Nexstar’s national 2024 Remarkable Woman.

Monday, 10pm PT
Jerelyn Rodriguez, co-founder of The Knowledge House based in the Bronx, was named Nexstar’s 2024 Remarkable Women winner on Monday night during a ceremony at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. Rodriguez focuses her work on teaching coding and other digital skills in underserved communities. Ultimately, Rodriguez wants to help pull people from poverty by giving them the skills they need for high-paying jobs in tech.
Founded in 2014, The Knowledge House has been doing that in the Bronx and is currently expanding to our parts of the country.
For her outstanding work, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation will donate $10,000 to Rodriguez and her organization.

A major surprise went down during an afternoon tour of the Warner Brothers Studio lot! The women were brought to The Jennifer Hudson Show set for a “tour.” Little did they know Jennifer was backstage ready to surprise them. When they came down to the studio floor for a picture, Jennifer popped out. After thanking them for what they do, Jennifer invited them to stay for a show taping.

After visiting the TCL Chinese Theatre and seeing their stories on the big screen, the Remarkable Women were surprised with news they’re heading for a tour of the Warner Brothers lot! As you’ll see in the clip below, they were greeted with a purple carpet and their name on the WB marquee.

Today is the day we find out who the 2024 Remarkable Woman of the year is! The women will gather for a group breakfast this morning before heading to the TCL Chinese Theatre and learning who the semifinalists are. They’ll get to see their stories on the big screen before enjoying a tour of Los Angeles!

As we all know, travel isn’t always the smoothest process. The winner from Indianapolis faced a number of delays and arrived at the hotel late on Sunday. She was greeted by cheering staff and other Remarkable Women as she got out of the car and joined the group.

The poolside party is underway! The scenery at the Loews is gorgeous featuring a massive Hollywood sign by the pool, all sorts of flowers, and the Remarkable Women logo on the side of a large building. The Remarkable Women enjoyed food, drinks, and plenty of dancing as they got to know each other. They also received personalized messages from a number of Hollywood stars and celebrities.

The check-in procedure is underway at the Loews Hollywood Hotel — and it’s not a normal process. Remarkable Women receive 5-star treatment upon arrival including a cheering section when they enter the hotel. They’ll do a shout-out for their local station before getting ready for an evening poolside reception and party.
About Remarkable Women: It’s a nationwide initiative from Nexstar Media Group to honor the influence that women have had on public policy, social progress, and the quality of life, celebrates local women that inspire, lead, and forge the way for other women. Each April, local finalists earn the opportunity to visit Los Angeles and celebrate their accomplishments at home.
