The 2024 Met Gala’s red carpet was the perfect mix of debuts, veterans, and the return of familiar faces after a long absence. Supermodel Linda Evangelista was one of the celebrities making a celebrated return to fashion’s biggest night after missing the last nine years.

The 58-year-old runway icon looked stunning in a gauzy white ensemble by Khaite which may or may not fit “The Garden of Time” dress code (lots of the outfits have behind-the-scenes stories about them). The fabric elegantly draped her tall frame and created swooping lines across her body. Her hair was chicly styled in a wavy bob which showcased her dramatic emerald chandelier earrings perfectly. She felt confident in the designer duds, telling Vogue, “It’s so dreamy and light—it’s light like a cloud. I feel so comfortable in it, and I’m really, really, really happy.”

Evangelista’s last appearance at the Met Gala occurred in 2015 which was also the beginning of her exit from the public eye. She would stay out of the limelight for six years before she revealed that a CoolSculpting procedure had left her “permanently deformed.” After undergoing seven noninvasive treatments to freeze fat cells on her jawline, stomach, back, and thighs, she alleged that the procedure “increased, not decreased” the issue. She subsequently endured two “painful, unsuccessful, corrective surgeries,” and felt “unrecognizable” — a problem when your face is your calling card.

Evangelista sued CoolSculpting’s parent company, Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc., for $50 million in 2021, and they settled for an undisclosed amount in 2022. She has stepped back into the public eye, but she admitted that her 2022 British Vogue cover required some extra attention behind the scenes. “That’s not my jaw and neck in real life – and I can’t walk around with tape and elastics everywhere,” she shared. She had makeup artist Pat McGrath use contour and face tape to make her look like herself again. Scarves and hats were also utilized to help cover up the issues that the CoolSculpting procedure reportedly caused.

She hopes that her unfortunate case is a warning to others who are considering a cosmetic procedure in the future. “If I had known side effects may include losing your livelihood and you’ll end up so depressed that you hate yourself…” she said. “I wouldn’t have taken that risk.”
