Legendary Entertainment Acquires Rights to Horror Video Game “Poppy Playtime”

Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is adding a new IP to its roster after being granted live-action film and television rights to the horror media franchise Poppy Playtime.

Mob Entertainment, the creators behind the Poppy Playtime franchise and Huggy Wuggy global phenomena, announced the deal.

"When we first started this journey, we followed our passion and created a series of games and brands with the purpose of inspiring and entertaining. We've always dreamed big and are thrilled to have created something that has captured the hearts of tens of millions around the world," said Co-founders Zach Belanger, CEO and Seth Belanger, CCO of Mob Entertainment.

They continued, saying, "This movie deal is a great logical next step in the growth of our transmedia entertainment company."

Poppy Playtime launched in 2021 and has since garnered over 40 million players across PC, mobile, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Roblox. The horror anthology set in an abandoned toy factory recently launched the third chapter, which weaves the franchise's storyline with deeper lore.

Mob Entertainment was founded in 2015 by brothers Zach and Seth Belanger, who wish to "craft unconventional stories, captivating characters, and exceptional experiences that redefine norms, enthrall audiences, and achieve both artistic and commercial success."

An exact project is yet to be announced, but Poppy Playtime has been let loose, so it should only be a matter of time before we see a tale about the toy grace the big screen.
