John Abbott, played by the late Jerry Douglas, is gone but never forgotten from Young and the Restless. Viewers feel his presence on the show still. Likewise, Jerry’s wife, Kym Douglas, is remembering Jerry on the occasion of the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary.

Ruby Remembrance

Kym posted on Instagram a photo from her and Jerry’s 30th anniversary from 2014. She simply captioned it: “Happy 40th Anniversary my Darling in Heaven.” Jerry passed away on November 21, 2018, at the age of 88, shortly before his 89th birthday. The actor joined Y&R in 1982 as the Abbott family patriarch. John was a stern but loving father, who wanted only the best for his children — Jack (Peter Bergman), Ashley (Eileen Davidson), Traci (Beth Maitland), and Billy (formerly, David Tom; now, Jason Thompson). John’s tumultuous love affair and two marriages to Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) provided tons of drama on Y&R as did his subsequent marriage to Gloria (Judith Chapman).

Sadly, John was killed off in 2006 but Douglas didn’t stay away from Y&R for long. He returned as a short-lived doppelganger of John’s Alistair Wallingford and, more often, as a spirit or Jack’s conscience.

Kym and Jerry share a son, Hunter. Kym appeared as Zelda Wilford, Traci’s book editor, in 2023 when the show wrote a tribute to John Abbott. Kym and Jerry’s Y&R pals are posting supportive comments in light of Kym’s tribute. “This picture shows it all! The move and happiness you shared which was so beautiful and rubbed off on all your friends!” shared Catherine Bach (Anita). “And Kym, Jerry was so proud of you! You know what a big fan of Jerry’s I am and of your incredible marriage.”

Tracey Bregman (Lauren) posted: “sending you so much love, honey.” Added Kate Linder (Esther), “Thinking about you and sending my love!” Lauralee Bell, who briefly played John’s stepdaughter courtesy of John’s short marriage to Jessica (Rebecca Street), wrote: “Thinking of you and love you.” Davidson added: “Love you such a sweet picture.”
