It turns out even 4-year-olds get tired of their parents’ humor. Sure, regular parent yarns might be cringe (even just typing “yarns” felt cringe), but jokes from the delightful — and hilarious — Kristen Wiig should knock anyone’s socks off, right? Wrong. Her twins Shiloh and Luna, 4, are apparently not amused by Wiig’s mom jokes, and ironically, we can’t stop laughing.

On Thursday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, host Kelly Clarkson asked how Wiig’s comedy is with her kids, who she shares with husband Avi Rothman. “I’m definitely trying hard at home with them because they’re not — they don’t always think I’m funny,” the Palm Royale star said with a laugh.

“It’s like the hardest audience you’ve ever worked for,” Clarkson agreed.

“It is,” Wiig said. “I remember one time, my daughter, she was eating. She had potatoes, and she was like, she was playing with the potatoes and saying it was like a boat, or whatever. And she was like, ‘Look!’ And I was go, ‘Oh, is that a boat-tato?’ And I thought it was funny,” she said with a grimace. “And the way she looked at me, I was like, I’m so terrified. You’re never gonna have a sense of humor.’”

“I mean it’s not that funny,” the Saturday Night Live alum continued. “But the way she looked at me was just like [shakes her head ‘no.’]”

“Just disappointed,” Clarkson said with a laugh.

“She was like, ‘No. No more,’” Wiig added.

Comedy legend (and Wiig’s Palm Royale co-star) Carol Burnett was also at the interview. Clarkson asked her if motherhood changed her comedy, and she replied, “No, I don’t think so. But some of my kids were funny.”

She told a story of a time she was at a restaurant with her three daughters, Carrie, born in Dec. 1963 and died in Jan. 2002, Jody, 57, and Erin, 55, and her husband at the time Joe Hamilton. Her youngest daughter was only 5 at the time, and she refused to eat her dinner because she wanted dessert. She was stubbornly looking away from her mom the whole meal, until finally she decided to try to make up with her.

“Finally, she looks at her father and she says, ‘Daddy, I love you very much.’ And he said, ‘I love you too, dear.’ And she said, ‘And I also love your wife,’” Burnett said with a laugh.

Although Wiig keeps her kids out of the public eye, she has opened up about how much motherhood has changed her life.

“It’s the best,” the Wonder Woman 1984 star said in a Dec. 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight.“I know everyone always says that, and everyone says, like, it changes how you look at the world and how you, like, see love. Now it’s just, like, such a bigger thing, and all of that stuff is so true.”

“Especially being in this business, you’re on your own a lot, and you make your own decisions. It can be very sort of, like, an isolated existence,” she continued. “Now that I have kids, it’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t want this to be about me, I don’t wanna think about me anymore.’ Just having these two other little beings that I get to take care of is so amazing and, even though it’s hard, I feel more relaxed in a way. I don’t know why, but I had this sense of, like, calm after they were born.”
