Knocked Loose have teamed up with Poppy for “Suffocate,” the latest single from the former’s upcoming album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, out May 10th. Stream it below.
The song is one of the most sonically diverse Knocked Loose tracks to date, with the band’s typical blasty hardcore clashing against more dance-y rhythms and an addictive reggaeton bounce that works wonderfully in this context. Poppy’s musical fingerprints are all over this one, making her contributions feel more collaborative rather than a mere vocal feature.

In a press release, Poppy revealed she initiated the collab by reaching out to Knocked Loose frontman Bryan Garris: “I am a huge fan of Knocked Loose and honored to be on this one.”
The versatility of her voice opened up the sonic palette for Knocked Loose, allowing the band to “push the boundaries of what we thought was feasible,” according to guitarist Isaac Hale. “It was so fun because her voice allowed us to expand our palette and do some weird, off-the-wall things that we maybe wouldn’t do in another song.”
Knocked Loose are just days away from kicking off their highly anticipated North American tour with Show Me the Body, beginning with an appearance at Sick New World on Saturday (April 27th). Get tickets to Knocked Loose’s upcoming shows here.
