On April 23, Kate Middleton and Prince William, who have taken a step back from royal duties recently due to Middleton’s battle with cancer, were given two new royal appointments from King Charles. The Princess of Wales was named the Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour while Prince William was appointed the Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. And while the news shows how strong the Waleses have become to the sovereign, there’s reportedly one royal who’s far from happy with the news.

According to insiders for Us Weekly, Charles’ younger brother Prince Edward is frustrated with the situation. “[Edward and his wife Princess Sophie] have really stepped things up with their commitment to service over the past few years,” the source stated. “Edward’s household were hoping he would get an honor.”

Most of all, it seems Edward especially connected with Middleton’s role, which was founded by King George V in 1917 and recognizes outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service, per People. “He’s dedicated to the arts, and that’s often overlooked with his theater work,” the source continued.

“It was disappointing, the snub, but they are still as loyal as ever,” the source added. “Charles has done nothing but sing their praises lately and it’s brought them even closer as brothers.” Kudos to Edward for putting on a brave face and putting his job above his feelings.

So, with a disappointing snub behind them, Edward and Sophie are focusing on the future more than ever. “Sophie has been supportive of him during this transitional period and they are really hoping it leads to something bigger and shows they are up to the task,” the source said.

As for how the Prince and Princess of Wales are feeling about their new honors, sources say they’re grateful for the recognition.

“[They] knew Charles was getting ready to announce the new honors and he also told William and Kate in advance,” the source detailed. “[William and Kate] were really thankful and it gave them a boost to be acknowledged. Especially with such amazing accolades.”

Looks like all is well in the royal household, at least for now!
