The Met Gala is exactly one week away and soon, A-list celebrities will be descending upon Manhattan for fashion’s biggest night. The preparation for the glamorous event is very detailed, from the gowns to the accessories, and most importantly, the hair. And Kim Kardashian knows how crucial a stunning hair style is for the overall drama.
In 2022, the Skims founder made a breathtaking appearance at the Met Gala in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic crystal-beaded gown for the “gilded glamour” theme that year. It wasn’t just about the dress, though. Kim went for slicked-back icy blonde locks to mimic the legendary actress’ tresses. Well, the 43-year-old reality star might have another trick up her sleeve for this year’s red carpet because she’s back to blonde.

On Saturday, Kim showed up with platinum blonde hair at the 22nd Annual Lo Máximo Gala in Los Angeles where she was the Kinship Honoree for her work with prison reform. Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton showed off Kim’s new look in an 11-second TikTok clip and her Marilyn hair is back with a bit of a modern twist. “Ice kimmy 🧊. We wanted to keep a short root & the blonde cool & creamy,” Appleton described in an Instagram post. “I colored it in a couple of sessions to keep the integrity of the hair nice and juicy.”
This new detail should give fans a hint as to what Kim is going to surprise everyone with when she walks down the red carpet in a week. Kim is reportedly confirmed to be attending the Met Gala alongside at least one of her famous sisters.
The Met Gala theme this year is “The Garden of Time,” supporting the current Costume Institute exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Does that mean fashionistas will see a lot of Disney princesses walking up the grand staircase this year?
Kim hasn’t given any hints about what she’s going to wear at this year’s Met Gala — it’s top secret for now! However, fans know she’s committed to creating an iconic fashion moment. On an episode of The Kardashians in 2022, Kim talked about her hair-dying process for her Marilyn look, sharing in a confessional, “It has to be the right color [and] my hair can’t fall out. We have to get it right because we have one day to dye it, so we are going to be up for the next 15 hours just dying it.
Appleton detailed the laborious process, too. “We are just on a time crunch to get it blonde for the Met, which is tomorrow. At the moment, it is half black and half blonde. The last time we took a week to do the color and now we have two days to do it,” he explained to the Hulu viewers. “She is ready to sit down for 15-hour sessions, but every strand of hair matters so we are just taking it really slow.” Kim can’t show up in any ordinary outfit at the Met Gala, so let’s hope 2024’s look is just as memorable as 2022.
