Kim Kardashian Brought Back Her Icy Blonde Hair and Dark Roots Just Before the 2024 Met Gala

Kim Kardashian is back to platinum blonde just in time for the 2024 Met Gala—but this time she’s not waiting for her dark roots to grow in naturally.

The 43-year-old reality star debuted her new icy blonde hair at a totally different gala in Los Angeles on April 27, just over a week before her biggest event of the year. But one doesn’t simply change their hair on a whim before the Met Gala, so it’s likely the dye job will go well with her upcoming look. The dress code for this year’s Met Gala is The Garden of Time, so maybe she’ll opt for something referential?

While we got used to seeing Blonde Kim while watching season three of The Kardashians in the summer of 2023, the last time the eldest Kardashian sister actually went platinum was two full years ago for the 2022 Met Gala. However, for that famous (or, as some would say, infamous) Marilyn Monroe look, Kardashian went platinum from root to tip, eventually letting her roots grow out with time. By January 2023 she was back to brunette (with a few blonde wig moments here and there).

Unless we’re looking at a well-disguised wig, it appears hairstylist Chris Appleton has opted to leave in Kardashian’s dark roots, starting the bleaching process about a quarter-inch or so away from her scalp. “Back to blonde,” Appleton captioned a video of Kardashian on TikTok along with an ice emoji.

While some of Appleton’s followers begged the stylist to “let her hair have a break” or debated whether Kardashian was wearing a wig, others saw the transformation as the first sign that it’s well and truly “Met Gala time.” Of course, most of the comments were not about her hair at all, but just an influx of Taylor Swift–related jabs based on Swift’s alleged new diss track, “thanK you aIMee.” As one commenter noted, it’s “a rough time to be named Aimee y’all.”

Luckily for Kim Kardashian, it doesn’t look as though she’ll be running into Taylor Swift at this year’s Met Gala, at least according to one TMZ report that claims the pop star and her NFL boyfriend RSVP’d no to the event. While Kim may not care either way, she recently shared an old pic with Swift’s ex-bestie Karlie Kloss on her Instagram Story, which some fans took as Kardashian’s subtle way of stoking the fire. But hey, perhaps they’re both just excited to look camp straight in the eye when they reunite next week.
