Kim Jones Pays Tribute to Yves Saint Laurent With Dior Men's FW23 Collection

Kim Jones honors Yves Saint Laurent's legacy, while celebrating agency in fashion with the presentation of Dior's Fall/Winter 2023 Menswear collection.

The brand's artistic director offers a revival of iconic archival pieces, altering the garments to allow for greater versatility. Saint Laurent's trajectory reveals a certain dynamic and agile spirit as the designer rose to the helm of Dior at the age of 21, making him the youngest couturier in history. Jones infuses this collection with a sense of play and intelligence only youthful artists display.

The mélange of garments is grounded in a reserved color palette comprised of soft white, chocolate brown, black and slate gray. Luxury wardrobe essentials are made anew with the help of subtly subversive tailoring as collarless overcoats are tightened at the elbows with the help of drawstrings. Elsewhere, basic white shirts are made more intriguing with the addition of snap closures, resting on the midriff and asymmetric shoulders. Preppy cable knit sweaters deliver some grit as they are leisurely draped over oxford shirts, their sleeves are split open. The same treatment is applied to single-breasted wool coats, adding instant drama.

The FW23 range is also inspired by the great rivers of London and Paris as fishermen's vests, bearing puffed chests nods to its slightly nautical vision. Rain-ready ponchos take on a luxury aesthetic, thanks to barely sheer fabric and expert craftsmanship.
