Kerry Washington isn't a stranger to short hair. We've seen her in a bobs and lobs on red carpets from coast to coast. Which might be why she chose to keep us guessing on the biggest fashion night of the year and go even shorter in the name of the Met Gala.

The star may have worn her shortest look yet on the first Monday in May, leaning into the gala's time-centric motif (after all, when do you think more about time than immediately after a riskily short new haircut?) in a striking pixie. With pointy sideburns and effortlessly tousled bangs, she's pulling off the shorter 'do as effortlessly as she does her more typical bobs. Washington might just have found a new go-to style.

Makeup artist Carola Gonzalez based the concept for Washington's glam around the orchids on the star's Oscar de la Renta gown. “I wanted her to look like spring,” she said in a statement. “When I think of spring I think of pinks and purples so this look complemented her dress beautifully while connecting with the theme for this year’s Met Gala.”

Working with Bobbi Brown products, Gonzalez leaned into romantic pinks and purples for Washington's look. After prepping the skin with Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Smoothing Serum and foundation, she added gentle powder to the cheeks with Pot Rouge in Pink Flame layered with Powder Blush in Gallery. For the star's eyes, Gonzalez chose mauve and antique rose shades out of the Rosey Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, with Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in incandescent dabbed onto the inner corners of Washington's eyelids for a pop.

Washington's gorgeous rosy lip is a product of three different layers — Lip Pencil in nude, Luxe Matte Lipstick in Neutral Rose, and Extra Plump Tinted Lip Serum in Bare Blossom.

[The garden of] time will tell whether the pixie will enter Washington's rotation of hairstyles, but one thing is for sure — her head is a whole lot more fun to hold up tonight than Sarah Jessica Parker's.
