Kelly Marie Tran & Miles Robbins To Lead Shal Ngo’s Film ‘Control Freak’

EXCLUSIVE: Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker) and Miles Robbins (Blockers, Halloween) will star in Shal Ngo’s Control Freak, a psychological thriller from WorthenBrooks for Hulu Originals. The feature film has wrapped production and will premiere in early 2025.

Control Freak follows a motivational speaker plagued by an uncontrollable itch on her head, who becomes infected with a parasitic demon from her homeland. Tran stars as “Valerie,” alongside Robbins who plays her husband, “Robbie.”

Additional cast includes Toan Le (The Sympathizer) as Valerie’s father, “Sang” and Kieu Chinh (The Joy Luck Club) as her “Aunt Thuy.”

Ngo was tapped to direct Control Freak based on the short film Control. He also wrote and directed for Season 2 of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween. WorthenBrooks developed Control Freak for Hulu Originals with David Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian and Jenna Cavelle as producers; Shaum S. Sengupta and Miles Alva as executive producers; and Hatuey Rodriguez as co-producer. Ngo is represented by Echo Lake Entertainment and UTA.

Tran can next be seen on Season 3 of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Tran has made history by voicing Disney’s first Southeast Asian Princess with her role as Raya in Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). Additionally, Tran recently executive produced two projects. First, on SXSW’s Grand Jury Prize-Winning Documentary Feature Lily Topples The World, which follows the life of an American-Chinese adoptee who became a global artistic force. Second, director Carlos López Estrada’s spoken-word poetry feature film Summertime.

In 2017, Tran made her big screen debut in Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi as Resistance Mechanic Worker, Rose Tico. In 2019, she reprised her role as Rose Tico in Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, a role she has reprised as a voice actor in various franchise projects. She is represented by CAA, M88 and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Robbins will next be seen in the comedy feature, Y2K for A24 directed by Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter. He can currently be seen in the Netflix/ Miramax feature, Old Dads opposite Bobby Canavale and Bill Burr. Miles made his feature film debut in the role of “Connor” in Blockers opposite Leslie Mann and John Cena for Universal and Point Grey. He followed that with the role of “Dave” in Halloween for Universal/ Blumhouse, directed by David Gordon Green. Additional film credits include Daniel Isn’t Real, The Day Shall Come, The Day Shall Come and Netlix’s Let It Snow.

On the TV side, he can be seen in Season 2 of Miracle Workers and previously starred in the recurring role of “William”, the long-lost son of Scully and Mulder on Fox’s, The X-Files. Additional credits include Netflix’s, The Get Down and Amazon’s Mozart In The Jungle. Robbins is represented by Gersh and Anonymous Content.
