Kate Middleton Suits Up in a Blue Zara Blazer to Mark International Day of the Midwife

To mark International Day of the Midwife, the Duchess of Cambridge interviewed Ugandan community nurse midwife Harriet Nayiga for Nursing Times magazine. Kate spoke with Nayiga back in March of this year about her work as both a nurse midwife and as the founder of MILCOT (Midwife-led Community Transformation), an organization that provides "advice and support for vulnerable women and girls in Nansana, Uganda."
For the virtual chat, Kate wore a smart (sold-out) blue blazer from Zara paired with chic black trousers and a matching black top. The duchess wore her hair pinned back in a half-up style, with her brunette strands intricately twisted, as seen in a photo captured of Kate from behind.
The new interview with the Duchess of Cambridge and Nayiga was published on Wednesday, May 5, to mark the International Day of the Midwife. In Uganda specifically, nurses and midwives make up 75 percent of the public health care workforce and are often the first point of contact for patients who reside in areas were health care resources can be scarce.
During their chat, Nayiga explained the challenges that her community in Uganda faces, including high maternal mortality rates, teenage pregnancies, and domestic and sexual violence toward women. MILCOT works to alleviate those issues by providing women with sexual reproductive health support for marginalized adolescents and young people.
The Nursing Now program, launched by the Duchess of Cambridge in 2018, has helped provide support to midwives like Nayiga by introducing them to a network of global health leaders. Nayiga has also been able to participate in Nursing Now's Nightingale Challenge leadership program, which provides training and development for midwives, nurses, and other health professionals.
