Kate Hudson’s Latest Career Change Was a Long Time Coming, But Also Her Biggest Fear

Whether your favorite Kate Hudson movie is Almost Famous, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Bride Wars, or even Glass Onion, it’s safe to say all of us have enjoyed her onscreen at least a few times over the years. But while her career as an actress has produced some iconic movies, her recent career change proved she’s not afraid to start new either.

On May 17, Hudson will be releasing her first-ever album, Glorious. For those wondering where this major career 180 came from, it’s actually a long time coming for Hudson.

“Music was my first love,” Hudson told People in a new interview “It’s really a lifetime in the making.”

As for why Hudson waited so long, the Oscar nominee said she was enjoying her career one step at a time. “I became really sort of successful young. So going and making a record or pursuing music took a very far back seat to what was happening in my career at the time,” she explained. “But I never lost sight of what I love.”

Fast-forward many years later, the mom of three felt the need to pursue music in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown. “I was like, ‘If I don’t do this, it’ll be a great regret,'” she remembered.

“Sticking to [the] status quo is not how I’ve ever lived my life. I’ve always been fearless in the decisions I’ve made, whether it is in relationships or in [my] career, but this was the one thing that I was so afraid of,” she admitted. “It’s like I switched something in my brain, and I was like, ‘I’m just going to do it. F— it.'”

Prior to Hudson’s album launch, she already debuted three songs “Gonna Find Out,” “Live Forever” and “What About Love” and two accompanying music videos.

Knowing how hard it must be to reinvent yourself and put something new out for the world to see, we applaud Hudson for being so brave. We can’t wait to hear the full album!
