“If somebody cast a spell on me and I got stuck as Starfish I think I’d be happy with that,” says SAG Award winner Kate Flannery while discussing her time as the sea creature on FOX’s “The Masked Singer.” “Each song was a joy and it’s great to sing with backup dancers. A ton of backup dancers, and confetti, and balloons, and people on bikes. It was nuts!” Watch her exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson above.

As Starfish, Kate sang “Under Pressure” by Queen on “Queen Night.” Following Ugly Sweater’s (Charlie Wilson) elimination, Starfish lost a hard-fought Battle Royale to Goldfish. Panelist Ken Jeong was able to identify the star of “The Office,” but his colleagues Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Rita Ora were off the mark, guessing Kate McKinnon, Lisa Kudrow and Amy Schumer, respectively.

Kate confirms working on “The Office” for so many years was indeed as fun as it looked. “How nice to do a show that really changed television comedy,” she explains. “The documentary style was not a TV thing. There were things that were honed and created during our show that have been used on sit-coms, so it’s always great to be a pioneer. It’s also great to come up with a group of people where none of us are famous initially and suddenly everybody knows us. In that way we will forever be bonded.”

Next for the star is teaming up with Emmy winner Jane Lynch co-hosting this year’s Alzheimer’s Association Southern California “Magic of Music Gala” on Thursday, May 9th at Sony Pictures Studios. “This is my second year hosting,” she says. “Jane and I perform together every December because we did a Christmas album together called ‘A Swingin’ Little Christmas.’ We have a lot of chemistry on stage. We have a lot of fun.”

Tickets and tables are available for purchase at this year’s benefit at the Magic of Music Gala website.
