K-Drama Actor Lee Je-Hoon Gives Update on Chief Detective 1958 Role
South Korean actor Lee Je-Hoon is all set to feature in Chief Detective 1958 as Park Young-Han. In a recent interview, Je-Hoon opened up about the reason behind saying yes to the script. The actor received immense appreciation for his performance in the popular drama Taxi Driver.
Chief Detective 1958 is the prequel to the classic K-drama Chief Inspector, which was set in the 1970s and 1980s. The drama ran for 18 years, from 1971 to 1989. It was one of the most popular dramas back in the time. However, now years later, Chief Detective 1958 is being made based on its prequel storyline set in the 1950s era. The drama also features Choi Woo-Sung, Yoon Hyun-Soo, and others in pivotal roles.

Je-Hoon is playing the lead character of Chief Detective 1958, Park Young-Han. The storyline follows Park, a passionate detective with the highest number of arrests of petty thieves. He teams up with his unique and charismatic colleagues and becomes the hero of the town for curbing corruption. The drama shows his journey as a detective before becoming an inspector.
Park Young-Han dons a simple look as he starts at the Jongnam Police Station. Lee Je-Hoon exudes a cheerful and positive vibe as Young-Han. Talking about why he chose the drama, he said, “The biggest [reason] was my great anticipation and curiosity for the prequel of ‘Chief Inspector.’ It’s also an honor to be able to participate in the story of a project that received love from the entire nation to the extent that it broadcast for 18 years.”
Lee Je-Hoon further added, “I thought that if it was revealed how detective Park Young-Han and the chief investigation team members met and how the people of that time period looked at the world, the people who remembered ‘Chief Inspector’ would enjoy it.” He continued to explain his character in much detail by saying, “Park Young-Han is a very innocent character whose passion and tenacity for catching the criminal is stronger than anyone else, and he is a young man with a passionate heart.”
Chief Detective 1958 is all set to release on April 19, 2024, at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC and Disney Plus.
