Blast from the past. Sofia Richie’s response to Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber’s pregnancy news shows where they stand years after their breakup. Justin and Hailey, who married in 2018, announced they were expecting their first child together in an Instagram post on May 9, 2024.
The post, which was shared on both of their accounts, included a video of what looked like a vow renewal as Justin and Hailey reconfirmed their love for each other in front of a pastor on a mountain side. Hailey wore a white dress and a veil-like hood revealing her growing baby bump. The post also featured several other photos from Justin and Hailey’s vow renewal which showed Justin hugging Hailey from behind and holding her stomach.

After their announcement, many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, The Kid Laroi, DJ Khaled and Demi Lovato, commented on the post. Someone else who commented was Justin’s ex-girlfriend, Sofia Richie, who wrote, “Ahh!! Congratulations.”
Justin and Sofia dated briefly in August 2016 after Justin’s first split from Hailey earlier that year. “They were never officially together, but more casual hanging out and having fun,” a source told E! News at the time of Justin and Sofia’s breakup. “It was super-hot and heavy, and because Justin doesn’t want a relationship right now, he wanted to cool things down. It wasn’t an intentional cool-off. It just sort of happened on its own.”
Another source added, “They are still friends though and will continue to see each other like they did before they were dating. They are taking a backseat though on the romance side of things and just focusing on being friends at this time.” The insider also added that the timing of Justin’s relationship with Sofia was just “not good for him” at the time.
Though Justin and Hailey split months before his relationship with Sofia, the two reunited in June 2018 before getting engaged a month later and marrying that September.
A source told TMZ in May 2024 that Hailey was sixth months pregnant at the time of her and Justin’s announcement, which would put her due date at around August 2024. (That also mean that baby Bieber would be a Leo.) DJ Symon, who hosts Hits 1 LA With Tony Fly & Symon, also claimed on her radio show before Justin and Hailey’s announcement that she heard from a source from Justin’s record label that Hailey was also six months pregnant. “I have major breaking news. A source via Justin Bieber’s record label told me that Hailey Bieber is six months pregnant. Now, this makes a lot of sense. I mean, Hailey, who is always used to strutting her stuff with her tummy out, has been wearing super baggy clothes, baggy jackets, and even at Coachella was really covered up. I cannot wait to see what baby Bieber looks like!” she said in a TikTok video in May 2024.
Sofia, for her part, is also pregnant with her first child with her husband, Elliot Grainge, whom she married in April 2023. “I found out very, very early,” Sofia told Vogue in an article in January 2024 announcing her pregnancy. “I was about four weeks pregnant. I was on a trip to Milan for Fashion Week, and I was going to the Prada show. I was doing a really quick 24-hour turnaround, and I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag.”
