“Rosemary’s Baby” is the latest horror classic to get a many-years-later sequel – or prequel, in this case.

On Friday, Paramount+ announced that “Apartment 7A,” a prequel to Roman Polanski’s legendary psychological thriller, is coming to the streaming service this fall. (Technically, it’s based on Ira Levin’s novel “Rosemary’s Baby,” but it’s a movie prequel in spirit.)

The movie tells the story of what happened in the titular New York City apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) moved in and became the unwilling mother to the son of Satan. It’s set in 1965 and follows a struggling, young dancer (three-time Emmy-winning “Ozark” star Julia Garner). After she suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.

The film also stars two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (“Hannah and Her Sisters”), Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”) and Kevin McNally (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series), with Marli Siu (“Everything I Know About Love”), Andrew Buchan (“All the Money in the World”), Rosy McEwen (“Blue Jean”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Wonka”).

“Apartment 7A” is directed by Natalie Erika James, with a story by Skylar James and a script by Natalie Erika James & Christian White and Skylar James. The film is produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and John Krasinski’s Sunday Night Productions.

Since Polanski’s Academy Award-winning film was released in 1968, “Rosemary’s Baby” has gotten a made-for-TV movie in 1976 called “Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby” and a Zoe Saldaña-led 2014 limited series adaptation.
