Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist in Challengers (2024)

Warning: Spoilers for Challengers below.

Filming one particular scene in Challengers was a "delicious" experience for Josh O'Connor.

The scene in question is a flashback to his character Patrick's younger years, when he visits girlfriend Tashi (played by Zendaya) and best friend Art (Mike Faist) at college.

At one point, Patrick and Art share a churro — a scene that has gone viral for its erotic undertones. And according to O'Connor, it was his first time ever having the treat.

"That was my first churro, and I hadn’t eaten anything that day,” the British actor, 33, said in an interview with Capital FM published Friday, April 26. “So I was starving, and tasted my first churro — and churros are extraordinary."

"So I ate my one and then I ate [Mike's]," O'Conner added, pointing to Faist, 32.

Zendaya, 27, told the outlet, "The churro wasn't scripted. The churro was something you guys kinda found, right, with [director Luca Guadagnino]?"

"That was definitely a Luca thing," O'Connor said, also referring to similar scene earlier in the movie involving a hot dog.

Challengers tells the story of Tashi, a former tennis champion turned coach who pushes her husband Art, a formerly mediocre athlete, to become a Grand Slam champion.

Following Art's losing streak, Tashi spurs him on to compete for courtside supremacy in a match against his former best friend — and Tashi's former boyfriend — Patrick.

Following the trailer release back in 2023, Zendaya opened up about the film's sexual tone, telling Empire of Guadagnino, 52, “What Luca’s really good at is finding sensuality and desire."

“There’s so much in just glances," the two-time Emmy winner continued. "The tension builds. Not having the release is a good thing sometimes."

Zendaya also told reporters at the movie's Los Angeles premiere earlier this month that the sports romance-dramedy "is incredibly sexy," despite there "surprisingly" being "no sex scenes in the movie."

"We keep saying tennis is the sex in the movie, and I think tennis holds a metaphor for a lot of things: desires, passion, pain, anger, frustration," she said, in part. "I think they all use tennis as this way of communicating with each other when they just don’t have the words."

Challengers is in theaters now.
