“John Tucker Must Die ”sequel“ ”is in the works, cast reveals during reunion

A script has been written, which would feature "all of the OG cast."

Apparently, John Tucker did not learn his lesson the first time around, because a John Tucker Must Die sequel is in the works, according to its cast.

Costars Arielle Kebbel, Jesse Metcalfe and Sophia Bush dropped the news during a panel at Epic Cons Chicago on Sunday, where they were gathered nearly 18 years after the release of the beloved teen comedy.

Metcalfe first teased the crowd, telling them he had heard "there is a script" before asking if they'd be interested in a sequel. After the applause died down, he said, "I’ve been hearing rumblings about this script circulating Hollywood — apparently it's amazing." While the star hasn't read the new story himself, Metcalfe added, "I'd definitely love to be a part of it, and I can't wait to read it."

The original 2006 film followed a group of high school students — Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Bush) and Carrie (Kebbel) — who discover the titular John Tucker (Metcalfe) has been secretly dating all three of them and telling them they're "the one." The trio plot revenge by enlisting a new girl, Kate (Brittany Snow), to break his heart.

Kebbel confirmed that a script for a sequel had been written and would involve the aforementioned cast. "The rumor is true," she told the Epic Cons crowd. "I started producing a few years ago. There is a script. We are very proud of it. It does involve all of the OG cast."

At this point, Bush chimed in, saying she was "ready to go," with a potential new film. Kebbel added that the script also "blends some very cool new cast" and that "Jesse may or may not get a chance to change, which would be very exciting."

Metcalfe said he was down but really just wanted to know one thing about his character's supposed new arc: "Do I get a chance to wear a thong again?"

"We wanted to talk to you about that," Kebbel joked. "We were thinking you'd actually, like, make your own brand, endorse it. It'd be a whole thing."

"I'm here for it. I can't wait to unleash this dad bod on the big screen," Metcalfe added.

As for other plot or potential production details, Kebbel said, "That’s pretty much all I can say for now." However, in the meantime, she wanted to thank the fans for their "enthusiasm" which she said "is definitely inspiring and a huge part of this, and it definitely, definitely has been a very special thing to see the love and support of this almost 20 years later."
