Is Jessica Simpson almost ready to release new music?

After the singer and entrepreneur let fans know she's working on a new album in Nashville last year, she took to social media on April 19 to share a cozy photo from a recording studio.

In the image, Simpson, 43, is seen sitting on a couch with headphones on as she sings into a microphone while looking at lyrics on a music stand — though any words written on the pieces of paper are obscured by light.

It's been more than a decade since fans have gotten a new full-length project from the "Irresistible" singer, whose last album, Happy Christmas, was released in 2010, while her most recent non-holiday project, Do You Know, came out in 2008.

Simpson dropped six songs alongside the audiobook version of her 2020 memoir, Open Book, and put out a cover of "Particles" by Nothing But Thieves the following year. In February, she attended W Magazine, Mark Ronson, and Gucci's 2024 Grammy Awards afterparty with sister Ashlee and her husband, Evan Ross.

In a November 2023 cover story interview with Footwear News, she opened up about spending more time in Nashville and creating new music in the city — as she plans for a new album and tour to be released this year.

"It’s like a retreat for me. I get to just crawl up inside my head and embrace my heart," said Simpson of living and creating music from Tennessee at the time. "I feel so enlightened there."

"Writing music has become a beautiful therapeutic thing for me that I didn’t know was so natural, but it’s because I haven’t done it in so long," she told the outlet, noting that she'd written over 400 poems throughout 2023.

"It’s just nice to know that I’m meeting myself back in this place, as a woman, and after going through everything that I’ve been through in my life," continued the former Newlyweds star. "There’s a sense of freedom and empowerment."

Simpson — who shares son Ace Knute, 10, and daughters Birdie Mae, 5, and Maxwell Drew, 11, with husband Eric Johnson — first spoke about returning to music in a July 2023 interview with Bustle.

"It boggles my mind that I’ve stayed relevant and that people are curious," she admitted at the time. "Because I have not entertained. I have not entertained at all."

Simpson added: "I’m doing this as a mother now, as a wife. I was a wife last time, but this is a very different marriage. And they’ve never seen me [perform]."
