Sad news for Jessica Pegula fans: The American No.5-ranked tennis player won't be competing at the Madrid Open.

In an April 2024 Instagram Story, she shared that she needed to withdraw from the competition due to an injury. "Not a great update, but I got hurt this past week before Madrid and unfortunately not ready to play," she wrote. "Thankful for some extra time at home and hope to be back ASAP."

While the 30-year-old keeps her personal life under pretty private, it's highly likely that her husband Taylor Gahagen will be there to nurse her back to health.

But who is Taylor Gahagen, and when did he and Jessica get married? Here’s what we know.

He’s from New York, where he went to college and got his MBA.

Taylor was raised in Williamsville, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. He went to school at SUNY Fredonia, where he played baseball, and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. From there, he got his MBA at Canisius College, according to LinkedIn.

While Taylor was at Canisius, he also was part of the American Marketing Association and Psychology Club.

What does Taylor do for a living?

Taylor worked for Jessica’s parents' company Pegula Sports and Entertainment for about a decade, according to LinkedIn. He now wears a bunch of different hats, including serving as managing partner of Dragos Capital (a private equity investment firm) and a managing partner of Agarwood Wealth (a wealth management firm).

They were first linked in 2015.

It's not entirely clear how Jessica and Taylor met, but he did work her for parents' company, so it's possible they crossed paths there. In a since-deleted Instagram from 2015, Jessica first made the relationship public, sharing a photo from a costume party she attended with Taylor, per People.

The next year, Jessica documented the couple's trip to see the Broadway hit Hamilton.

They got married in October of 2021.

The two originally planned to get hitched in October 2020, but the pandemic had other plans. They eventually got married in October 2021 in Asheville, North Carolina. (You can still check out their wedding registry online!)

They held the ceremony at the Biltmore Estate, where Jessica wore a traditional white dress, according to Tennis.com. But not everything went off without a hitch: Jessica was worried about her friend, fellow pro tennis player Jennifer Brady, finding a dress in time, she told Tennis Channel Live.

“She keeps saying she's going to look for one but every time I ask her she's like, 'Yeah, I'll go look today.' And I'm like, 'You're not.' She says that every single day," she said. (Jennifer did find a dress, per Tennis.com.)

They honeymooned in Costa Rica.

The couple put off their honeymoon until 2022 due to Jessica's intense schedule, but ultimately ventured to Costa Rica for the trip.

"It was amazing, it was so much fun,” Jessica told the WTA. “We want to go back so bad. It was just the best experience. The people, the food, the lifestyle was so much fun.”

Outside of tennis, they work on projects together.

The couple are both dog lovers and have a foundation called A Lending Paw, which teaches rescue dogs to be service animals. Their dogs were also featured in Break Point, where Jessica hilariously used coveted Wimbledon towels to dry them off.

Taylor also serves as vice president of Jessica's skincare company, Ready 24, which creates products for people with an active lifestyle, according to their site.
