Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘Unfrosted’ Pops as Top Film on Netflix with 7.1 Million Views

The 1998 “Seinfeld” finale drew 76.3 million viewers to NBC, which made it the fourth-most-watched series finale in TV history. Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted” opening weekend on Netflix was not that, but it was number one on Netflix in its debut, notching 7.1 million views on 11.3 million hours viewed.

The (mostly fiction) comedy film about the invention of the Pop-Tart wasn’t quite a hit with critics (to say the least), but it so far has popped with audiences, probably in part because of the obscene amount of press Seinfeld did leading up to its release.

With just 72 hours of availability, “Unfrosted” beat out Sony rom-com “Anyone but You” in views, but not hours viewed — the Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney film is eight minutes longer than Seinfeld’s. The story of Kellogg’s breakfast-pastry triumph also unseated Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” which is now on the English Films Top 10 List for its third straight week. The “Rebel Moon” sequel debuted at number 1 and stayed there in week two. Good, but not exactly “Barbie” numbers.

Also still performing strong is “Baby Reindeer,” which for the third week in a row is number one on the English TV charts for Netflix, earning another 18.6 million views in the week of April 29. Making its debut on the chart was the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full” with 6.3 million views, and two of Netflix’s recent live events, “Katt Williams: Woke Foke” and “The Roast of Tom Brady,” also cracked the Top 10. (The John Mulaney special did not.) Katt, Tom, and John are all live components of the streamer’s Netflix Is a Joke Fest. “Woke Foke” came out late Saturday night and the long, long Tom Brady Roast premiered 22 hours later.

“Unfrosted” was directed and co-written by Seinfeld and also stars him alongside Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, and a litany of comedian guest stars, including one incredible cameo.
