Jenna Bush Hager, Jake Gyllenhaal

Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb aren't afraid to share their opinions on Today. But the former first daughter's direct opinion of Jake Gyllenhaal's SNL monologue was a bit harsher than usual.

On Monday, May 20, Bush Hager and Kotb chatted about the Spider-Man: Far From Home actor hosting the Saturday Night Live Season 49 finale on May 18. Part of Gyllenhaal's opening monologue included him singing a version of Boyz II Men's "End of the Road."

Gyllenhaal belted out a soulful rendition of the track as he lamented the long list of celebrities who declined to host before he was asked to take on the role. They included Pedro Pascal, Ryan Gosling and Zendaya.

Kotb declared that Gyllenhaal's performance was "brilliant," asking Bush Hager, “I didn’t know he could sing like that, did you? Where’s that been!”

However, Bush Hager wasn't convinced. "I don’t know he’s that good, do you?” told Kotb, who gasped along with Today stage crew members.

As a few crew members laughed from behind the camera, Bush Hager exclaimed, "No, I don’t mean that mean!”

Kotb insisted. “No, he’s really good!”

“I mean, was he really?” Bush Hager replied. “I mean, he’s better than me, but I’m just saying. It was the words that were funny, right?”

Later, the mom of three added, “Sorry, sometimes things pop completely out of my mouth."

Of course, Bush Hager is a self-proclaimed Swiftie—and Gyllenhaal previously dated Taylor Swift, who turned around and wrote a 10-minute diss track widely thought to be about the actor—so perhaps that's where the harsher-than-usual opinion came from. Either way, the former first daughter isn't afraid to call it as she sees it!
