Jason Momoa Shaves Off His Beard for First Time in 7 Years: 'It's Time to Make a Change'

Jason Momoa wants to see a major change in the health of our planet. And to get the point across, he’s making a major change to his own appearance.

The actor, 39, shaved off his signature beard, sharing a video of the big moment to his YouTube page on Wednesday.

“Goodbye Drogo, Aquaman, Declan, [and] Baba!” Momoa wrote — referencing the bearded characters he played in Game of Thrones, Aquaman, Frontier, and his upcoming TV series See, respectively. “I’m shaving this beast off, it’s time to make a change.”

It’s the first time Momoa has shaved since 2012, he said in the video as he cut away his long beard in the middle of the desert to reveal his bare chin (and perfectly chiseled jawline).

“Looks pretty good!” he remarked.

Momoa’s transformation was inspired by a new line of canned water that he is helping launch with the Ball Corporation.

As he explained in the video, aluminum cans, unlike plastic bottles, are “100 percent recyclable.”

“I just want to do this to bring awareness because plastics are killing our planet and I think we have a solution,” Momoa said. “I don’t want to bitch about it [but] there’s only one thing that will really help our planet and save our planet — as long as we recycle — and that’s aluminum.”

“About 75 percent of all aluminum that’s ever been used is still in use today,” Momoa said. “And it’s 100 percent recyclable. You drink the can and in about 60 days, it’ll be back. 100 percent. Infinitely recyclable.”

Momoa went on to explain that he worked for the past two months on his mission to get aluminum water made.

“I wanted to make my own water so I could be an example. So I had a product I could take out to give to the world. And that I could take to other companies in hope that they could do the same,” he said. “I’m on a quest. It’s my journey.”

His line is available in still, alkaline, sparkling, and spring water.

“It’s just water but I feel good about it,” Momoa said. “I know I’m going to recycle this and I know that we can recycle it.”

“So please, please. There’s a change coming. Aluminum. We got to get rid of these plastic water bottles. Aquaman’s trying to do the best he can. For your kids, for my kids, for the world. Clean up the oceans, clean up the land.”

While Momoa has shaved, his long hair did remain. That’s good news for wife Lisa Bonet, who is a fan of the lengthy mane.

“My wife would leave me if I cut my hair so I just don’t cut my hair,” Momoa told the Daily Telegraph back in December. “I am not cutting my hair for a while, I will tell you that much.”

Since the first time he and and Bonet, 51, met in 2005, hair was a sweet part of their relationship.

We just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” the actor, 39, told James Corden in 2017 about the first time he met Bonet in a jazz club in N.Y.C. “I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, ‘I’m Lisa.’ ”

He continued, “I turned around to my friend and I [pretended to scream]. I had f—ing fireworks going off inside, man.”

The two have been together ever since. They tied the knot in October 2017 and share two children together, daughter Lola Iolani, 11, and son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha, 10. (Bonet is also mom to daughter Zoë Kravitz, 30, with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz, 54.)

Of course, Momoa’s also not planning to cut his hair for professional reasons. “I am going to be playing this guy for a while and I don’t want to wear a wig,” he said about his Aquaman character and shooting sequels to his hit movie. “I think we are good for the next two years.”
