Jared Leto Gifted a Live Rat and Dead Hog to His 'Suicide Squad' Teammates

One man’s rat is another man’s team-building gift.

Though we’re still a year away from the film’s release, the Warner Bros. and DC Comics villain team-up movie Suicide Squad has generated an incredible amount of curiosity during its production — especially where Jared Leto’s Joker is concerned. And according to one cast member, the Oscar winner’s tattoo-covered, green-haired psycho Batman baddie doesn’t just look bizarre to people on the outside. He also raises his co-stars eyebrows, as well.

Leto was one of the last actors to make it up to Toronto, where director David Ayer’s film is being shot, but he made sure to make his presence felt from the very beginning. "He sent [costar Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live rat,“ Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot, told E! Online earlier this week. "It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”

Robbie plays Harley Quinn, the Joker’s sidekick and love interest, which explains the romantic rodent gesture. Will Smith, meanwhile, plays assassin Deadshot, so the bullets do make some sense. But unless there’s some sort of inside joke we don’t know about, it’s hard to explain another gift he sent all of his cast-mates: A dead hog, along with a video of him in character. "The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away,” said Beach, who didn’t elaborate further about the hog. (Then again, maybe we don’t want to know.)

Suicide Squad co-stars Joel Kinnamen (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) and will also likely feature an appearance by Ben Affleck as Batman. It hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
