Apple TV+ has shared the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series Presumed Innocent, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and executive produced by J.J. Abrams.

Premiering on June 12th, Presumed Innocent is an eight-part limited series based on the novel of the same name by Scott Turow (which was also the basis for the 1990 film, Presumed Innocent, starring Harrison Ford). Gyllenhaal will star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor-turned-suspect who’s extramarital love interest has been murdered.

Gyllenhaal’s Sabich opens the trailer by saying “Love isn’t what people tell you it is,” before revealing that his attraction to fellow prosecutor, Carolyn, “woke something up inside me.” Tense music then plays over scenes of sex and suspense, building up to a straight shot of Gyllenhaal’s anguished face when he’s asked if he’s “aware that Carolyn’s been murdered,” and can’t muster a reply. The first two episodes of Presumed Innocent will arrive on June 12th via Apple TV+. After that, a new episode will drop weekly on Wednesdays. The finale will air on July 24th. New subscribers of Apple TV+ can sign up for a seven-day free trial here.

Beyond Gyllenhaal, the show’s cast will feature Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, and Kingston Rumi Southwick. The show comes from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Gyllenhaal, Abrams, Turow, and more getting executive producer credits.

Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal recently starred in the remake of Road House, and is reportedly on the short list of desired actors for the second season of the Netflix series Beef.

As for Abrams, he’s currently working on an “emotional, grounded, and gritty” film adaption of Hot Wheels.
