Jack Antonoff Shares Behind-the-Scenes Photos of Taylor Swift Making ‘TTPD': 'My Favorite Work We Have Made Together'

Jack Antonoff is giving Swifties a peek behind the curtain of the making of Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Antonoff helped produce the new album, as did The National’s Aaron Dessner. While Antonoff has worked with Swift since 2013, a series of behind-the-scenes photos that the Bleachers lead singer shared on Instagram on Friday, April 19, identified The Tortured Poets Department as his “favorite work” that he has made with Swift. The time they spent working on the project was “the most inspiring of my life,” he added.

The album was “made in the most wild unhinged moment,” the producer’s post said. “[A]ll the pain distilled in this album and all the laughter that came out of it. will hold those days in the studio forever as the most inspiring of my life. i adore this album and the way it came together. ttpd FOREVER.”

Antonoff’s post contained previously unseen glimpses of Swift in the studio. The first photo was a Polaroid that showed Swift sitting on a red couch with a phone in her hands as she looked up through her bangs at the camera. In his caption, Antonoff wrote that the photo was taken while they were working on “Down Bad,” one of 31 new tracks included in The Tortured Poets Department.

Additional photos showed Swift in the studio with recording engineer Laura Sisk, and one image showed a blue drum kit sitting alone inside Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The post also included a short video clip of Swift singing some of the lyrics to “The Black Dog.”

The pop star first teased her new project in early February while accepting a record-breaking fourth Album of the Year win at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Swift’s fans spent the weeks after that announcement eagerly awaiting The Tortured Poets Department's arrival. When it finally dropped as a surprise double album on Friday, April 19, Swifties were thrilled to learn that the album contained more music than they had anticipated.

“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs,” Swift wrote in an Instagram caption announcing her decision to release a double album. "And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”
