When did officials delay the Indy 500?

As promised, decisions about the 108th race weren't made until today. Just after 11:15 a.m., with storms on the radar, officials announced the delay and asked fans to take shelter. Pre-race festivities were paused until further notice.

What happened last time the Indy 500 was delayed?

In 1997, the Indy 500 was rained out. It continued on Memorial Day, but was stopped after 15 laps. The race finished on Tuesday.

It can take more than an hour to dry the track

Last week, track officials were able to dry the track in 77 minutes with NASCAR's air titans.

How long does the Indy 500 take?

The 101-lap race can take a few hours, but 90 minutes of favorable weather can be enough.
