I'm Dreaming of a Pink Christmas: Annual gala takes guests back to Palm Beach in the '50s

Say this for the supporters of the Salvation Army: They're not afraid of a little rain.

OK, a lot of rain. Torrents.

Monsoon-like conditions did little to dampen the '50s vibe at the annual holiday gala to benefit the Salvation Army of Palm Beach County.

'Christmas in Paradise' took place Dec. 16 at the Beach Club.

Missy Chilton, Susan Cushing, Holly Holden and Joan Parker were chairwomen of the event, which included cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner and dancing amid a pink-and-green setting, including neon pink and green life-sized nutcrackers at the door and a hot pink carpet.

A Sinatra soundtrack and men in white dinner jackets were in keeping with the theme, which was punctuated ― with a giant exclamation point ― by a live demonstration of '50s dancing by the pros from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio.

The night continued with a performance by local singer-songwriter Brett Miller, and dancing that went on until even the giant fake nutcrackers keeled over in exhaustion.

Hamish Ross was chairman.

Honorary chairwomen were Susan Lucci and Gigi Benson, with Harry Benson serving as honorary chairman.

Committee members were Christine and Max Ansbacher, Teddy and Robert Bailey, Leslie Carranza, Beatty Cramer, Marie Hope Davis, Anne Fitzpatrick, and Paula and Bill Mikus.

Lori Jayne Bernstein was junior chairwoman.

More than 250 people attended.

Proceeds assist the Salvation Army of Palm Beach County, under the leadership of Majors James “Chip” and Leisa Hall, in its mission to 'Do The Most Good' through its programs to help the most vulnerable populations.
