Idoru Is the New App Offering Self-Expression and Representation for Your Digital-You

Idoru is an innovative and hyper-real, avatar-creation app that believes in the power of self-expression and its ability to change the world. Now open to the public to download for free, the platform serves as a unique medium for creativity, discovery and empowerment.

Founded by humanist technologist Mica Le John and former fashion and music art director Michael Taylor, Idoru exists at the intersection of digital identity and virtual fashion. The app allows users to create themselves in the virtual space without limits and to feel confident and comfortable in their identities; digital fashion and beauty options are designed and provided by black-owned labels Phlemuns, Topicals, Babytress, Rebundle and Dydoshop. Additionally, its current beta version includes AR-based content to share with friends on social media.

Behind Idoru are an interdisciplinary team with extensive backgrounds across technology, education, the arts and more. Furthermore, 86% of their cap table is BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and/or women. The mobile app is supported by Bright Ventures, Precursor Ventures, Gaingels, igniteXL, Debut Capital and On Deck's Runway Fund.
