Iconic 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek' spaceships impressively brought to life with Christmas lights

The Great Christmas Light Fight traveled to a galaxy far, far away on Wednesday, for a battle of the holiday heavyweights. The show featured the Festival of Lights East Peoria, Ill., known as FOLEPI, which is an annual light float parade. The parade consists of 40 homemade light floats, and some of them are out of this world.

The parade featured iconic spaceships from blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. A TIE fighter, X-wing and U.S.S. Enterprise were among some of the fan favorites.

The giant floats are either pulled by golf carts or built atop truck chassis. In some instances the floats are massive. For example, the steam train float is 165 ft long and comprised of over 65,000 LED lights. In total, the parade is made up of over a million lights.

It was no surprise that FOLEPI was crowned the champion of the festive light competition. The organizers not only got a trophy to proudly display, they also got $50,000.

The Great Christmas Light Fight airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
